Working with a Medium

Here is some practical advice---

Medium, Psychic, Intuitive, Energy Reader, Sensitive, Angel Readings—they are all pretty much the same.  Always ask if you are unsure.

Discuss fees upfront. I know of one intuitive that charges a flat rate, even if the session is for two  hours (or more).  Don’t be afraid to ask what the hourly fee is and if there are any additional fees if the session goes overtime. Ask about cancellations.  Will they charge if you cancel?  It’s a service you are paying for and you have every right to ask questions.  Don't give any credit card information until you are there in person!

How you feel during your appointment and even a few days later are good indicators if the reading went well.  Did you feel uplifted?  Did you learn something about yourself that is of value?  Was something said that made you really think? Did you feel safe in sharing private matters?  Did they provide you with information that could help you?  Did something occur that made you comfortable that they are genuine?  Was the medium positive in the way he/she delivered messages?  Did they fulfill the role of a medium; by providing specific information that only you would know?

If you are exhibiting signs of depression or anxiety, call your physician or a therapist!  Depression/Anxiety are medical conditions; NOT an “energy” or "chakra" imbalance.  Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!  A good medium will suggest you seek medical care first and come back when it is treated properly.  Be very reluctant of anyone who suggests they can heal an illness.

The best way to find a reputable psychic is to ask around.  Personal recommendations are the most reliable method.  You can’t always trust testimonials on the Internet or a website.  Also, many psychics have Facebook pages.  Go through their pages and get a feel for who they are.  Read reviews on Yelp.  They can't be edited or removed.

Be assertive!  Ask the Medium to cover his/her eyes or turn their chair backwards away from you.  This avoids any reading of body language as validation.  I actually know many mediums that work this way and this method definately shows authenticity.  It's how you find out if someone is the real deal.

When you find someone you want to make an appointment with, give your name and phone number (or any other contact information) and nothing more.  Naturally, you may share when you get there, but keep details to a minimum.  An authentic psychic will be able to tell you what is hanging around in your energy field without being told. Let go of expectations and allow whatever needs to come, come naturally.  However, be aware that it may be something unexpected.  Here’s an example:

I once had a client who, the moment she came in, I kept seeing the beach. After a few minutes, it became more specific—her feet in the sand on a beach, with guilty feelings surrounding her. Because it was the first thing I felt, I knew it was important.  She had been asked to teach some classes on the beach in Mexico and was worried that her husband was not going to want her to do this.  She was so concerned, she was afraid to even discuss it with him.  He was the kind of person that was married to his job and didn’t like to take time off.  I mentioned to her that since it was coming up immediately, that it was clearly a big issue.  I allowed her to process it herself and she came up with her own answer.  My role was to listen and help guide her to answer her own questions.  She and her husband now go to Mexico three times a year.  He was ready for time off, but was reluctant to share it with her.  She teaches and he uses it as a vacation.

If a deceased loved one (or friend) comes through, the medium should be able to tell you attributes, behaviors or belongings that make sense to you.   Many times, a loved one will share something small that has a great deal of meaning to the living.  It’s kind of like showing a drivers license to verify identity.  I once had an image of a belt buckle with the letters O.T. on it.  I knew it was this mans father.  It seemed so strange I wasn’t even sure if I should say anything, but I did.  My client laughed and said “I gave my dad a belt buckle right before he died with the letters O.T. on it.  It was a joke between us.  It meant Oilfield Trash.”  It was a way for his father to let him know it was him.

Dark energy doesn’t always mean evil. Sometimes, it means a painful issue that is lingering around you or an unresolved issue that is causing difficulty in your life.  It may appear to the medium as a dark area in your energy field. Don’t get overly concerned if this term is used. Ask!! If you are having trouble with a “dark” energy, you will know! You will have no doubts.

You want your reading to have some specifics.  Speaking in generalities is a good way to read responses and get more information.  Always remember the Barnum Effect; The tendency for people to accept very general or vague characterizations of themselves and take them to be accurate.

You are having financial difficulties.              You recently lost your job.  Your home was recently
Foreclosed.  You just bought two new cars  and can’t afford it.  That business you invested in didn’t work out.

You just lost a loved one.                               Your Aunt Joyce is here.  A female who
always wore Chanel #5 is here.  I’m seeing a grumpy male who always wore a blue work shirt with overhauls.  Someone is here; they passed from having fluid on the lungs; complications from surgery.

You will meet “the one” soon.                        The guy/gal on Match.com feels right.  The guy/gal you are seeing shares the same value system as you, this is a positive.

You are experiencing changes in                   Your husband has gotten a new job.
your life.                                                         You are moving out of state.  You have had a recent health diagnosis.

Here is a great example of how a charlatan will feel you out and not be able to provide specifics.  And it's really funny!

Avoid wearing jewelry.  Some psychics feel as if jewelry interferes with energy and can affect a reading.  I also recommend that you dress as plainly as you can; try a pair of jeans a plain tee-shirt and sneakers.  If you come to your appointment, for example, wearing a cowboy hat, Wranglers, a large belt buckle and cowboy boots, the psychic can safely assume you like country music, horses and rodeos.  That isn't supernatural, that's observation that can appear to look like they have "tapped" into you.

Take what a medium tells you as recommendations or guidance, not dogma.

Many mediums will record a session for you to take home.  Not all do this and it isn’t a sign of a fake.  Just ask if they do it.

Some people are just “unreadable” for a variety of reasons.  A genuine medium will recognize this and discuss it with you.  A really honest Medium will not charge you.
